A FooD’ate with the Thadhanis’

This is my first restaurant review (post creating my blog) but surely not my first food’ate with this family from Delhi.

#nimalthadhani (masie in-law) #mohanthadhani (her husband) #shaanthandhani (son) are ardent foodies, committed to eating in style anytime and in any part of the world. Infact, if you’ve read my introduction on the blog “Chief? Mio?”, this family has been integral to start my love affair with FOOD & COOKING. I attribute a lot of my culinary skills, my palate, my recipe’s to this ‘adventurous about food’ couple . They are not only my blog’s enthusiastic followers, but also very motivating & inspiring. Both are great chefs, but their fight for who wears a better hat is never ending!

In my recent visit to Delhi, the four of us met at this contemporary yet a regional food café called #Café Lota (not quite figured why it’s called so). While the name is a bit un-appetizing, I quite liked the place and it offerings.

Located inside The National Crafts Museum close to Pragati Madain, this small and simple restaurant seems to be more popular with the visiting foreigners more than the locals for not many have yet discovered this hidden Indian Treasure.

As I write I realise, this restaurant fits perfectly with the spirit of this blog Indian at heart & Gourmet at Palate! The café offers some great Indian Cuisine from various parts of the country, well innovated for accompaniments and presentation.

Dhokala served as a dense loaf,  rava idlis tossed with moglapodi with a dash of Ghee tadka to go along, pakkal patta chat (chandni chowk famous), the place does have an interesting & varied menu to offer.

For the mains we had Konkan (sole) fish curry, Mutton Sukka , Kachha Aam Prawns Curry served with Ragi Appams and Bihar ka Baingan chokha, sattu paratha and kurkare baigan raita, each dish served as individual plates.

bihari baigan mutton sukka

Most of the food was tasteful and served in good portions, The bihari baigna however lacked authenticity in taste and i wouldn’t server an overdose of baigan in one platter as the raita had fried baigan too. Less is Slick!

And for the sweet endings, their Indian Cheese Cake : Bhapa Doi cheesecake, topped with almonds and pistachios did seal the deal well to recommend people to try this Indian Surprise at-least once. However, only in the winter season and in a chauffer driven vehicle as there isn’t any parking at all!
